Harvard Art Museums
32 Quincy Street, Cambridge, MA

Today’s walking tour has been rescheduled to Saturday, April 27 due to inclement weather.

Charlotte Leib, curatorial intern at the Harvard Art Museums and graduate student at the Harvard Graduate School of Design, will lead a special, hourlong walking tour of the Harvard Graduate Center. The center was designed by Bauhaus founder Walter Gropius, his students at the Harvard Graduate School of Design, and his colleagues at the Cambridge-based firm The Architects Collaborative between 1948 and 1950.

The tour will explore the center’s significance as the first modernist building complex realized on Harvard’s campus while introducing visitors to the artworks commissioned specifically for the site. It will also touch upon the historic links between the Graduate Center design and the design of the Bauhaus campus in Dessau, Germany (1925–26).

This tour is organized in conjunction with the exhibitions The Bauhaus and Harvard and Hans Arp’s Constellations II.

The tour will begin in the Calderwood Courtyard, in front of the digital screens between the shop and the admissions desk.

Free with museums admission. The tour is limited to 15 people and tickets are required. Ten minutes before the tour, tickets will become available at the admissions desk.

In the case of rain, the tour will be rescheduled for Saturday, April 27, 2019, at 10:30am. Additional walking tours will be offered Friday, April 26, at 3:30pm, and Saturday, May 11, at 10:30am. The Harvard Graduate Center is approximately a 10-minute walk from the Harvard Art Museums; please wear comfortable shoes.
