Materials Lab Workshop: Data Visualization

Workshop

Harvard Art Museums
32 Quincy Street, Cambridge, MA

This event is at capacity.

How can we look at museum data? In this workshop, Jeff Steward, director of the Division of Digital Infrastructure and Emerging Technology (DIET), and Gavi Levy Haskell, technology fellow in DIET, will show you how you can use the Harvard Art Museums’ collections data in your own projects.

Steward and Levy Haskell will introduce participants to museum data by exploring the museums’ Application Programming Interface (API). The API provides direct access to JSON-formatted data that powers the website and many other aspects of the museums. They will also demonstrate how to use the API and show some creative data visualizations.

Bring your own laptop to experiment and test ideas!

The workshop is presented in conjunction with the Cambridge Science Festival (April 14–23, 2017).

The event will be held in the Materials Lab, Lower Level.

This is an introductory workshop; no advanced knowledge necessary. The workshop is free, but registration is required. To register, email am_visitorservices@harvard.edu or stop by the museums’ admissions desk. Space is limited to 15 participants. Please bring your laptop.
