Eva Hesse: Film Screening and Discussion

The documentary Eva Hesse, by Marcie Begleiter (2016), investigates the life and artistic practice of one of the most influential and experimental artists of the last half-century. Emerging from the male-dominated artistic milieu of 1960s minimalism, Hesse created work that pushed new boundaries as she deliberately chose complicated and often impermanent materials for her sculptures.

Following the screening, Annette Lemieux, artist and senior lecturer on visual and environmental studies at Harvard University, will be joined by Mary Schneider Enriquez, curator of Doris Salcedo: The Materiality of Mourning, to discuss Hesse’s legacy of making art that challenges materiality and inspiring the next generation of sculptors.
