Seminar

Harvard Art Museums
32 Quincy Street, Cambridge, MA

In this seminar, Jennifer Quick, the John R. and Barbara Robinson Family Associate Research Curator in Photography, will discuss photographs that artist and printer Gary Schneider printed for such artists as Robert Gober, John Schabel, and Peter Hujar. Schneider worked with these artists as co-owner of the lab Schneider/Erdman, Inc., founded with his partner John Erdman in 1981 and located in Manhattan’s East Village. Quick will share the stories behind these photographs, looking closely at the many technical and conceptual decisions involved in the making of each work.

This seminar complements the exhibition Analog Culture: Printer’s Proofs from the Schneider/Erdman Photography Lab, 1981–2001, on view May 19–August 12, 2018.

The seminar will take place in the Art Study Center, Level 4.
