Descriptions
- Description
- 6 black-and-white gelatin silver photographs related to the Pier Project and REO. The images are unlabeled, undated, and of various sizes, showing students at work, at rest, and perhaps an installation view. Wilmarth carried out two, probably simultaneous projects in 1970, one with each of his first- and second-year sculpture classes from Cooper Union, in both of which he took his students into alternative urban spaces to work and exhibit. REO occurred around the Fulton Fish Market and the Brooklyn Bridge, and the Pier Project was done at the South Street Seaport Pier and on South and Fulton Streets. For more reading on these projects, see CW2001.1690. The 2 color slides seem to be snapshots taken at the opening party for Pier Project, which was held on the Ambrose Lightship, or for REO, which was held on a ferryboat. Wilmarth is pictured in both. . . . The inside back cover of the original file, now replaced, carried the following note, now recopied: "Complete documentation of the Pier Project and REO are in the holdings of the Archives of American Art. / Negatives of photographs taken are in the NEGATIVES BINDER. 1/1989."
