Glorifying the Battle of Nieuwpoort, this political print show the Dutch lion – emblem of the Seven United Provinces – on a triumphal chariot surrounded by emblems referencing the provinces’ unity including seven arrows hold by clasped hands and an orange tree with the Dutch leader Maurice of Nassau’s coat-of-arms. Led by Prudence and Victory, and under the watchful eye of Vigilance, the chariot is pulled by Spanish prisoners-of-war, including Mendoza the Spanish commander. The procession is closed by happy countrymen playing musical instruments, while Fame blows its horn in the heavens followed by putti.
