Pedal Power: Through North Vietnam is a young nation, with 17 million people, more than half, 10 million, are beneath the age of thirty and, of these, 4 million are of military age (15-30.) In downtown Hanoi, along the main shopping center, the daytime street is nearly deserted as the people work for their government. Vehicles, a prized possession, are rare, and on this vehicle can be seen special adapters for night-driving while a bicyclist pedals along. In the background is Hanoi’s National Theater and Opera House, closed now due to bombing
