Descriptions

Description
Painted plain weave cotton duck canvas fragment with knife cut edges and a white ground layer. The fragment has a partial turn edge and tacking margin with staple holes. The white ground extends over the margin and is partially covered with reddish orange paint extending to the turn edge. The orange paint is applied diagonally with respect to the canvas weave and the fragment's cut edges are also made diagonally with respect to the canvas weave. There are accretions embedded in the paint surface.
