A watercolor depicts a young man standing on a fallen tree trunk in the middle of a forest as he looks into the distance. Dressed in dark clothing and a wide-brimmed hat, the young man carries a rifle over his left shoulder; a dead animal hangs by his side from his right hand. The fallen tree trunk is decaying: its exterior bark reflects the light, while the splintered interior is a red, earthen color. In the background, trees create a dense vertical pattern.
