Provenance

Recorded Ownership History
Possibly Queen Christina of Sweden. Prince Livio Odescalchi, Rome (?-1713), by descent; to Odescalchi Family (1713-1957), sold; [through Sotheby’s, Rome, November 20, 1957, lot 67]; [to H. M. Calmann, New York (1957-1960), sold]; to Marian Harris Phinney, Cambridge, MA (1960-1962), bequeathed; to Fogg Art Museum, 1962.

Notes:
The drawing was preserved in what Marcel Roethlisberger has called “The Animal Album” until the album was dismantled in 1957 after it was purchased at Sotheby’s by H. M. Calmann. Hence the listed provenance refers to the entire album until 1957, after which the drawing was sold separately.
