M12114: Sketching No. 1
PrintsThe image area of this piece has a waterway cutting through it diagonally from left to right. On the far side of the water is a tree lined hill and a small house or cabin. Rowing up the river are two figures on a small boat. The figure at the stern mans the oars, while the figure at the prow sits facing them. On the side of the water sits a man in the bottom right corner in a suit and hat. In his lap is a book, and he is looking down towards it as he faces the water.
