Descriptions

Description
Textile fragment decorated with six narrow tapestry woven bands of different purple leaf, berry, and vine designs.

Each tapestry woven band is separated by several rows of plain woven undyed linen. A few inches of plain woven undyed linen survives above and below the areas of decoration. The warps are regrouped each time there is a transition between tapestry weave and plain weave; warps are paired in the areas of tapestry weave.
