448 Pair of Ornamental Plaques
Pale greenish jade with calcified, cream-colored spots. These openwork plaques consist of tiger figures, their bodies doubled back on their long necks; between their fore-and hindlegs they hold wing-like shields. Their long, twisted tails terminate in curls running parallel to the upper edges of the shields. Their second forefoot is drawn tightly up to the throat. The plaques, identical on both sides, are worked out in low relief and incised lines. Late Eastern Chou.
