1991.555: Calabash-Shaped Ewer with Crane and Peony Decor
VesselsFrom a circular base, the pitcher expands in a wide bulb shape, which narrows to a thin neck. The neck expands again to a smaller bulb that tapers to an even thinner neck at the top. The upper section leans slightly to one side, and has a handle which curves up, and then downward to meet the lower section. Opposite that, a slender spout curves upward from the lower section’s middle. The pitcher is glazed a light green-blue and features a design of white flowers with dark leaves within two offset rows of circles. Between these are wispy stylized clouds and cranes in flight.
