A scene in a late Eighteenth Century printer’s shop

Olive green colored lines and light washes of color describe two figures in a printing shop. At right, a woman in the foreground holds a sheet of paper and appears to inspect it she wears a large black hat with plumage and a large rose colored overcoat. Behind her an older man in an apron turns a large wheel on a printing press which has a stack of paper ready at one end and various colored inks and rollers. At center right there is handwritten text in French, and in the far right corner, the artist’s signature.
