Description
Jar with compressed globular body, slightly tapered neck, similarly tapered circular, well-finished, slightly concave base, and four striated lug handles; lightly burnished blackened earthenware with incised bowstring lines and applique handles. Longshan culture; from Shandong province.
Commentary
Compare to:
Black pottery covered vessel with similar lug handles excavated in 1974 from a Longshan site at Sanlihe, Jiaoxian, Shandong province, now in the Chinese History Museum, Beijing. See Zhongguo taoci quanji (The Complete Works of Chinese Ceramics), vol. 1: Xinshiqi shidai (Neolithic period) (Shanghai: Shanghai renmin meishu chubanshe, 2000), no. 204, pp. 213 and 314.
