Description
Jar with slightly flared mouth, wide cylindrical neck, sloping shoulders, and globularly body raised on a circular pedestal foot; two pushou-mask supports positioned bilaterally on the belly; incised decoration of fish and scrolling clouds; light gray earthenware with incised decoration.
Commentary
Compare to:
(1) A group of jars of similar form with closely related decor excavated in 2003 from a late Western Han tomb of Zhang Jiu near Daobeimiao South Road in Luoyang city, Henan province. See Wenwu [Cultural Relics] 12 (2005): 34-35, figs. 8-10.
(2) Covered ‘hu’ jar with two ‘pushou’-mask ring handles excavated in 1992 from a late Western Han dynasty (206 BCE – 9 CE) tomb in Jinguyuan near Luoyang train station in Luoyang city, Henan province. See Wenwu [Cultural Relics] 7 (1994): 24, figs. 2, 4, and 5.
(3) A group of long-necked ‘hu’ storage jars with two ‘pushou’-mask ring handles and calligraphic inscriptions excavated in 1992 from a late Western Han dynasty (206 BCE – 9 CE) tomb in Xigong District, Luoyang, Henan province. See Wenwu [Cultural Relics] 11 (1995): 8, figs. 7 and 8.
