A horse in three quarter profile facing left, with a rider seated on its back

Rendered in finely shaded detail in graphite on grainy, oatmeal colored paper, we see a horse at center approaching diagonally and facing left. The horse shows an alert expression with head up, ears pointed and mouth slightly open. The rider in the saddle is described only with light outlines, as are the saddle, stirrups and bridle. In various places the legs are lightly sketched, only to be abandoned and sketched more fully in a different position. In the lower right corner is a partial sketch of the horse’s mouth, and at lower left another partial sketch of its front left shoulder
