Descriptions

Description
Flask with short cylindrical neck, round body with flattened front and back supported on an oval footring, and with two square lug handles on the shoulder; white stoneware with transparent glaze tinged with pale celadon green. From northern China, probably from Hebei or Henan province.
Commentary
Compare to:
(1) White ware pilgrim flask of similar shape excavated from a Tang dynasty (618-907) tomb in Xi’an, Shaanxi province, now in the Xi’an Municipal Institute of Archaeology and the Preservation of Cultural Relics. See Zhongguo chutu ciqi quanji [Complete Collection of Chinese Ceramics Unearthed in China], vol. 15: Shaanxi (Beijing: Kexue chubanshe, 2008), no. 45.
(2) Green glass flask of closely related shape from the tomb of Li Jingxun (600-608) in Xi’an, Shaanxi province, now in the collection of the Museum of Chinese History, Beijing.
