Description
Silver-form long-necked bottle with flared mouth, ovoid body, tall conical foot, and flat base; white stoneware with transparent celadon-green-tinted glaze; base unglazed. From northern China, possibly Henan province.
Commentary
Compare to
(1) White ware bottle of closely related form dating to the Tang period excavated in 2000 from the underground vault of Fawang Temple, Dengfeng, Henan province, now in the Henan Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology. See Zhongguo chutu ciqi quanji [Complete Collection of Chinese Ceramics Unearthed in China], vol. 12: Henan (Beijing: Kexue chubanshe, 2008), no. 85.
(2) White ware bottle of related form purportedly made at the Xing kilns, Henan province, excavated in 1990 from a Tang period site at Shaolingyuan, Xi’an, Shaanxi province, now in the Shaanxi History Museum. See Zhongguo chutu ciqi quanji [Complete Collection of Chinese Ceramics Unearthed in China], vol. 15: Shaanxi (Beijing: Kexue chubanshe, 2008), no. 67.
(3) Slightly smaller white ware bottle of nearly identical form attributed to the early Tang period (7th century) in the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco collection (accession no. B60P2073). See He Li, Chinese Ceramics: The New Standard Guide (London: Thames and Hudson, 1996), no. 133, pp. 89 and 119.
