Description
Bowl-shaped cup with one strap handle attached from rim to midsection; coarse buff earthenware with geometric decoration painted in black slip. Xindian culture. From the upper Yellow River valley region; Gansu, Qinghai, or Ningxia province.
Commentary
Compare to:
Cup of the same form but with different painted designs unearthed from a Xindian site in Minhe county, Qinghai province, now in the Qinghai Provincial Museum. See Zhongguo taoci quanji [The Complete Works of Chinese Ceramics], vol. 2: Xia, Shang, Zhou, Chunqiu, Zhanguo [Xia, Shang, Zhou, Spring and Autumn, and Warring States periods] (Shanghai: Shanghai renmin meishu chubanshe, 2000), no. 50, pp. 70 and 239.
