The artist Toyen was Styrsky's companion and collaborator from 1922 until his death in 1942 at which time she inherited his work. She later (sometime between the mid-1960s to the late 1970s) gave a large group of Styrsky material to close friends in Paris from whom this work was acquired by Ubu Gallery in 1994.
