Throughout the Cambridge Science Festival (April 17–26), join us in the Lightbox Gallery at 2pm for a daily investigation of how technology can help us visualize, explore, and play with large fields of information.

About today’s program:
Ailanthus altissima, or the Tree of Heaven, has adapted to city life, flourishing as a knee-level weed and yet also vaulting up to match the more typical oaks and beeches of the urban forest. How can we expose our perceptions of Ailanthus as not natural but constructed? What constraints do we face in collecting or creating alternative interpretations? What perspective on the contested biopolitics of the city can Ailanthus offer?

Feral Trees, a project by metaLAB, takes shape in the Lightbox Gallery as a multimedia immersion in the elusive qualities of _Ailanthus altissima_—a tough, uncanny, unwanted creature.

This event will take place in the Lightbox Gallery, Level 5.

Free with museums admission. This talk is limited to 15 people and is available on a first-come, first-served basis; no registration required.

metaLAB (at) Harvard is a design and research group exploring the boundaries of digital culture. Visitors will be able to talk with members of the metaLAB team and learn more about digital collections and collections data.
