Bridging Divides: An Interdisciplinary Discussion on Migration and Belonging

Join us at the Center for European Studies at Harvard for an interdisciplinary discussion on the notion of belonging, offered in conjunction with the exhibition Crossing Lines, Constructing Home: Displacement and Belonging in Contemporary Art at the Harvard Art Museums.

The panel brings together the exhibition’s curators, Makeda Best and Mary Schneider Enriquez, and two social scientists, Friederike Römer and Jonathan Laurence, to explore questions such as: how might we expand our understanding of the ways in which refugees and immigrants assert their own sense of belonging while navigating the expectations of their new societies? How do visual representations shape our notion of what it means to belong? How are processes of belonging shaped by social, cultural, and political contexts?
