32 Quincy Street, Cambridge, MA

Due to Harvard University’s recent on-campus meeting and event guidance around Coronavirus (COVID-19), this event has been canceled. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

In the mid-18th century, European audiences witnessed an unprecedented symbiosis between the arts and industry. Spurred by expanding global markets and contemporary experimental culture, entrepreneurs worked with artisans to develop new materials and methods of production, while would-be consumers eagerly visited manufactories.

In this seminar, curatorial assistant Casey Monahan and curatorial fellow Gabriella Szalay will explore this phenomenon through objects in the collections, including Josiah Wedgwood’s portrait medallions and electrotypes made by D. Vollgold & Söhne.

Offered by:
Casey Monahan, Cunningham Curatorial Assistant for the Collection, Division of European and American Art
Gabriella Szalay, Renke B. and Pamela M. Thye Curatorial Fellow in the Busch-Reisinger Museum, Division of Modern and Contemporary Art

The seminar will take place in the Art Study Center, Level 4.

Free admission, but registration is required. Registration for this seminar will open on Friday, March 6, 2020, and participants will be admitted on a first-come, first-served basis. To register, please email am_register@harvard.edu.
