Boat with seated figure and two kneeling oarsmen, Egyptian, Middle Kingdom. Wood. Harvard Art Museums/Arthur M. Sackler Museum, Gift of Mrs. Charles R. Sanger, 1935.45.

Seminar

Harvard Art Museums
32 Quincy Street, Cambridge, MA

Due to Harvard University’s recent on-campus meeting and event guidance around Coronavirus (COVID-19), this event has been canceled. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

In this seminar, curatorial fellow Jen Thum will guide participants through the basics of Egyptian representation. Why do bodies “walk like an Egyptian,” and how were objects activated for use in the afterlife? Looking closely at a range of ancient Egyptian artifacts, from limestone reliefs to cosmetic implements and even a model boat, the seminar will explore some of the iconic forms of Egyptian art, as well as the materials and craft technologies that were used to make them.

Offered by:
Jen Thum, Inga Maren Otto Curatorial Fellow, Division of Academic and Public Programs

The seminar will take place in the Art Study Center, Level 4.

Free admission, but registration is required. Registration for this seminar will open on Friday, April 10, 2020, and participants will be admitted on a first-come, first-served basis. To register, please email am_register@harvard.edu.
