Seung Yeon Sang researches and documents the museums’ East Asian collections, helps curate permanent collections installations, and assists in organizing public and academic programs. Her primary research interests are the history of ceramic production and trade in early modern Korea, the impact of Japan’s modern transformations on tea culture and art history, and the meaning and uses of the museum as an institution. She has been the recipient of fellowships from the Japan Foundation, the Korea Foundation, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Smithsonian Institution (The Freer Gallery of Art and the Arthur M. Sackler Gallery), and the Sainsbury Institute for the Study of Japanese Arts and Cultures.
