Bronze was an intrinsic material in the ancient world, valued for its beauty as well as its versatility, and was used to create everything from monumental sculpture to clothing fasteners. This session, led by Lisa Anderson, the Frederick Randolph Grace Assistant Curator of Ancient Art, will explore the technical and cultural histories of select ancient copper alloy and bronze objects in the museums’ collection. Anderson will also demonstrate how the new digital resource Ancient Mediterranean and Near Eastern Bronzes at the Harvard Art Museums can enrich our understanding of Harvard’s outstanding collection.
The seminar will take place in the Art Study Center, Level 4.
