Lecture M. Victor Leventritt Lecture

Harvard Art Museums
32 Quincy Street, Cambridge, MA

Discovered by a farmer in rural Normandy in 1830, the Berthouville Treasure is a rare find of ancient Roman silver objects that were offered as votives to Mercury. Many of these objects have recently been conserved and are now in an exhibition at the Getty Villa, Ancient Luxury and the Roman Silver Treasure from Berthouville (through August 17, 2015). Kenneth Lapatin, associate curator of antiquities at the J. Paul Getty Museum, examines various aspects of the treasure, which includes some of the finest surviving Roman silver vessels and statuettes.

The event will be held in Menschel Hall, Lower Level. The lecture will take place from 6 to 7pm. Select galleries will be open for one hour following the lecture.

Free admission. Please enter the museums via the entrance on Broadway.

Complimentary parking available in the Broadway Garage, 7 Felton Street, in Cambridge.

Support for the lecture is provided by the M. Victor Leventritt Fund, which was established through the generosity of the wife, children, and friends of the late M. Victor Leventritt, Harvard Class of 1935. The purpose of the fund is to present outstanding scholars of the history and theory of art to the Harvard and Greater Boston communities.
