Materials Lab Plaster Workshop

Workshop

Harvard Art Museums
32 Quincy Street, Cambridge,

In this workshop, Francesca Bewer, research curator for conservation and technical studies, will explore some of the many uses of plaster in sculpture.

The workshop will take place in the museums’ Materials Lab, a new space designed to encourage the investigation of materials and techniques used in works of art. What kinds of choices and challenges do materials pose for artists as well as scholars and conservators? How does a more nuanced appreciation of art-making affect the aesthetic experience? Different materials will be explored through hands-on experimentation and close looking at select objects in the galleries.

The event will be held in the Materials Lab, Lower Level.

$15 materials fee. To register and pay in advance please call 617-495-1440 or stop by the museums’ admission desk. Space is limited to 15 participants. Minimum age of 14.
