Seminar

Harvard Art Museums
32 Quincy Street, Cambridge, MA

This event is at capacity

Led by Jennifer Quick, the John R. and Barbara Robinson Family Associate Research Curator in Photography, this seminar will examine three strategies—documentary, photojournalism, and performance—that photographers use to explore notions of cultural identity in contemporary society. Looking closely at photographs by Shirin Neshat, Gilles Peress, and Pushpamala N., participants will consider questions such as: how do these artists use specific techniques and visual qualities to represent aspects of cultural identity? What do the photographs suggest about the formation of cultural identity amid shifting social demographics, religious conflict, and political turmoil?

The seminar will take place in the Art Study Center, Level 4.

Free admission, but capacity is limited to 15 and registration is recommended. To register, please email am_visitorservices@harvard.edu.

Please arrive 15 minutes before the start of the program to allow sufficient time to sign in at the Art Study Center reception desk. Note that there is a wait list for this program; spots unclaimed by 11am will be released to those on the wait list. Please be prepared to present a photo ID.
