The content of this website was compiled and arranged by Nathan J. Timpano (2009–2010 Stefan Engelhorn Curatorial Fellow, Busch-Reisinger Museum) and draws upon the catalogue text for the 2011–12 exhibition Lyonel Feininger: Photographs, 1928–1939, organized by Laura Muir (assistant curator, Busch-Reisinger Museum). The exhibition will be presented at the Kupferstichkabinett, Staatliche Museen zu Berlin; the Staatliche Graphische Sammlung München, Pinakothek der Moderne; the J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles; and the Harvard Art Museums.
Special thanks go to T. Lux Feininger, whose generous gifts (1971, 1999) of his father’s photographic collection to the Busch-Reisinger Museum provided the impetus for this project. He also helped identify and date thousands of these images, a task that has proven invaluable to the museum. Gratitude is also due to Barbara Elfman, who refined this information and created many of the current database records; to Joanna Wendel, who assisted with cataloguing these works; to David Sturtevant and his team for digitizing Feininger’s photographs; and to Ziad Alsukairy, Ivan Chang, Katie Andresen, Chris De Angelis, Jennifer Novak, and Jeff Steward for their expertise in constructing the technological parameters and design elements of this online research tool.
