“Expanding Vision: The Plan for the Harvard Art Museums” is the name given to the fundraising program launched to support the construction of the new museum facility and to partially endow its operations. The program is a $240-million effort focused on raising:
—$185 million for brick-and-mortar costs
—$50 million for an endowment necessary to operate the new museum
—$5 million for unrestricted operating costs.
Our success depends on the vision, generosity, and participation of those who—like us—believe that art can change lives. Our success depends on you.
Your support is a necessary ingredient to complete the renovation and expansion of the new Harvard Art Museums facility. This project is much more than just a renovation—it is a complete transformation. As part of a major university with global reach, the Harvard Art Museums foster the experience with works of art as a part of learning, scholarship, and research that transcends books and lectures. The revitalization of our facility will help us to fulfill our mission and remain the nation’s leader in teaching and research in the visual arts.
Gifts and pledges (payable in up to five years) are welcome. In special cases, other forms of gifts—through bequests, trusts, other deferred giving, or personal property—can be considered.
Thanks to the many generous donors who have provided major gifts and commitments thus far, over 85% percent of our fundraising goal for the project has been achieved. These funds will support the project construction as well as create endowment and operating funds necessary to sustain the new museum. We are enormously grateful to our essential leadership donors, including Emily Rauh Pulitzer, David Rockefeller, the Calderwood Charitable Foundation, the Horace D. Chapin estate, and many others.
We want to encourage our other friends and supporters to help us reach our goal. Named gift opportunities are also available for interested donors; opportunities range from $25,000 to name a seat in the new auditorium to $1 million–$5 million to name gallery spaces.
