Focusing on a variety of works from the Art Museums’ contemporary holdings, this talk will chart the treatment of the body in the postwar period, in which the human figure has remained a persistent if uncanny presence. From the limbs-cum-piping of Robert Gober’s sink to the ominous damage represented in Doris Salcedo’s chair, the body is pictured in the act of disappearing, figured as proxy, as part-object, as vestige, as trace.
